Bio
Dr. Skylar Duck is an experienced veterinarian dedicated to providing compassionate care across various veterinary settings. Her work spans primary care clinics, nonprofit hospitals, and advanced referral centers, ensuring high-quality care for animals and their families, regardless of their circumstances.
Dr. Duck’s passion for animals started early while growing up with her veterinarian mother. She gained hands-on experience by helping in the clinic and caring for various animals, including dogs, cats, horses, birds, and small mammals. Working with rescue animals and being involved in veterinary practice shaped her understanding of animal care and strengthened her commitment to animal welfare.
In addition to her clinic experience, Dr. Duck dedicated countless hours to training and competing with her Quarter and Paint Horses, deepening her bond with animals through equestrian sports. She also developed an understanding of breed standards and canine care by showing her own Whippet and working with Cairn Terriers.
Dr. Duck studied Biology at Grand Valley State University before pursuing her Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine at The Ohio State University. During her studies, she gained practical experience on a white-tailed deer farm, completed an internship at an international veterinary hospital in Beijing, and managed the acupuncture department at a major specialty hospital. Additionally, she participated in a program in Washington, D.C., to learn about policies affecting animals and the veterinary profession.
After graduating, Dr. Duck pursued her interest in emergency medicine, working at a referral specialty hospital alongside board-certified specialists. In 2020, she founded Skylight Veterinary Relief Services, providing locum veterinary services across Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania, and Texas. With experience in over 50 veterinary hospitals, she has provided care for patients and their families with a wide range of medical needs.
Dr. Duck is committed to empowering pet parents by sharing her knowledge and practical advice through social media and online platforms. Her goal is to help families make informed decisions about their pets’ health and well-being while promoting positivity within the pet community.
